The Baytown Nature Center (6213 Bayway Drive) will focus on insects at the June Nurture Nature program, Saturday, June 2. The informative, fun, and always family friendly event returns with another entertaining, educational program the whole family can enjoy. “Insects” will be the topic from 10 am – 11 am.
The City of Baytown, in conjunction with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will host a Memorial Day Service, Monday, May 28, at the City’s Bicentennial Park, 1001 Market Street.
City offices, including those at City Hall, Public Works, and Utility Billing, will be closed Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day. All offices will re-open for business at their regular time on Tuesday, May 31.
The City of Baytown is celebrating National Public Works Week, May 21 - 26. The City will host a free event for the community on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Jacinto Mall parking lot on Garth Road. Public Works employees will have demonstrations and hands-on displays, including heavy equipment available for photo opportunities. In addition to the big trucks, children can play on a “Moon-walk” bounce feature, and enjoy free popcorn and snow cones while supplies last.

Then you need a booth at the Baytown Community Yard Sale on Saturday, May 19. The event, held by the City of Baytown Parks & Recreation Department, will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The City of Baytown Parks & Recreation Department will celebrate Arbor Day with a free tree giveaway, Friday, April 27, at the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center (1724 Market St).
At Thursday's City Council Meeting, the Baytown City Council discussed results of the Pilot Program and discussed where the program would go from there. Council decided to resume twice weekly trash collection in the pilot areas.
The Baytown Animal Shelter (705 N. Robert Lanier) is pleased to once again host the Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) on Tuesday, April 24. SNAP will provide FREE spaying and neutering and rabies vaccinations for animals belonging to qualifying low-income dog or cat guardians. Only dogs and cats spayed or neutered at this event will be eligible for a rabies vaccination.
The newly-rebuilt Bayland Marina will hold a ribbon cutting celebration Thursday, April 5, at Bayland Park, 2651 South Highway 146 at 4:30 p.m. The 100- slip marina replaces the marina that was destroyed by Hurricane Ike in 2008.
The marina, which reopened April 1, is owned by the City of Baytown and operated by Bayland Marina.
Don’t miss this opportunity to get outdoors and learn more about these favorites of all insects when Tracey Prothro, Superintendent of Natural Resource Programs and BNC Naturalist, Crissy Butcher, introduce visitors to “The Butterflies of Baytown.” The one-hour program begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7 at the nature center, located at 6213 Bayway Drive.
